Two images from mythology when I was child which impressed me deeply (from the different artists) were Salome and St. Sebastian, not the story, but the incredibleness and disbelief of what could be human reality, the contrast in images like the beauty of Salome with the decapitated head on the golden plate of John the Baptist and the unnecessary suffering of St. Sebastian which was more a matter of waking up deep empathy. From these days all my attempts of understanding the macabre parts of the life did not bring me closer to the answer, except for recognition that beauty and ugliness live in us all.
